My Aunt Susan sent this image to my family a couple weeks ago and I sorta died over it. It was a book given to my grandma from my grandpa in 1943 (4 months after they were married).

The book: "The Poems of Longfellow"

The note:

To my darling wife Elaine-

Let this little book of treasured poems be a minute token of the treasured memories I hold of our courtship which began beautifully four years ago today.

I love Longfellow and I know you will too. And when you use this book to read verse to the children we both hope to have some day, let your memory linger for a moment on July 23, 1939 at Stewart Ranch, Utah.

4th of July at the Cabin

The first day of our family reunion was on the 4th of July. As we headed up to the cabin we stopped in Park City to watch Egan and Lindsey play in a beach volleyball tournament. They were so fun to watch! My mom packed a picnic and we hung out in the grass watching them play.

We made our way to the cabin later in the afternoon and my parents set up a 4th of July relay which was hilarious. See more here. We had hamburgers for dinner and took a walk while the sun set. A lovely day! And a good start to the reunion.

My mom sent the kids to tally up what kind of burgers everyone wanted. I had to take a pic of their notes. Hand burger please!

Reunion Crepes

Crepes for breakfast is a Metcalf favorite. I love how it takes almost all the adults to help the 12 kids to get their crepes set up. Actually most of the kids are pretty good at it, but dang they can pound some crepes! I loved the long table in the kitchen at the cabin we rented. It was perfect to fit all the kids. And then the adults ate after and it fit us too!
