Carla Lani

My Aunt Carla's birthday is October 29th. On her birthday my mom sent out this collage to our family along with her birth story written by my grandma in a journal. I loved reading my grandma's descriptions and details of her first daughter Carla. I miss my sweet Aunt Carla! I remember when she died this past February my friend Julie left a comment on my blog with this quote by Harold B. Lee. I love it. And it seemed fitting to share as we are in a month dedicated to being grateful!

"Thank God for one more day! For what? For the opportunity to take care of some unfinished business. To repent; to right some wrongs; to influence for good some wayward child; to reach out to someone who cries for help -- in short, to thank God for one more day to prepare to meet God"

arise and go

i was asking my friend greg a while back about poems and he sent me one of his favorites. i must say, i now love it too...

Lake Isle of Innisfree
William Butler Yeats

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a-glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,
I hear it in the deep heart's core

2/17/11

My Aunt Carla Cannon died early this morning. I am sad. My heart hurts and the grief is thick. But I feel so grateful that I had Carla in my life. Oh how I love her!
These quotes were found in one of my Aunt's journals and my Mom emailed them a couple days ago in an email to the family. They touched Carla at some point in her life, and now the touch and comfort me. Here are a few I loved...

Plutarch "A pleasant and happy life does not come from external
things; man draws from within himself, as from a spring, pleasure and
joy."

by Kahlil Gibran
"Everyone has experienced that truth: that love, like a running brook,
is disregarded, taken for granted; but when the brook freezes over,
then people begin to remember how it was when it ran, and they want it
to run again."

"We live in deeds, not years
In thoughts, not breaths
In feeling, not in figures on a dial
We should count time by heart throbs."

By Sir James Barrie
"God bave us our memories so that we might have our roses in December."

i've loved them all

It's been a rough week, so to end it with a walk around Montage on the most gorgeous day ever was perfect. i got there just in time to watch the sun slip behind the horizon, which is always an amazing site. what i loved almost more then watching the sunset itself was watching people watch the sunset. it makes me smile! and i love experiencing something beautiful like that with strangers. it's happiness. i brought a book to read but there was just no way i could put my head down and read, the beauty of this night just consumed me.
